About the Event
Week 1-2: Referee Training
- Fundamentals of Officiating: Participants begin with an introduction to the basics of being a basketball referee. This includes understanding the rules of the game, the responsibilities of a referee, and the importance of fair play and integrity.
- Practical Sessions: Through on-court drills and simulated games, participants practice making calls, managing game flow, and handling on-court conflicts. Experienced referees provide mentorship and feedback.
- Certification Preparation: The training includes preparation for any necessary certification exams, ensuring participants are ready to officiate official games by the end of the program.
Week 3: CPR Training
- Basic Life Support (BLS): Participants undergo comprehensive CPR training, learning essential life-saving techniques such as chest compressions, rescue breaths, and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Emergency Response: Training also covers first aid basics, recognizing and responding to cardiac emergencies, choking, and other urgent health situations.
- Certification: At the end of the week, participants receive CPR certification, which is a valuable credential for any role involving public interaction and safety.
Week 4-6: Management and Operation of a Men's Basketball League
- League Structure and Scheduling: Participants learn how to organize a basketball league, including creating schedules, organizing teams, and setting up brackets for tournaments.
- Administrative Skills: Training covers essential administrative tasks such as registration, managing player information, and handling finances and budgeting.
- Marketing and Promotion: Participants explore strategies for promoting the league, including social media marketing, community outreach, and event planning to increase visibility and engagement.
- Game Day Operations: Hands-on experience in setting up and managing game days, from preparing the venue to coordinating with referees and volunteers. Participants also learn to troubleshoot common issues that may arise during games.
- Leadership and Teamwork: The program emphasizes the development of leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team, both critical for successful league management.
- Skill Development: Participants gain a diverse set of skills, including sports officiating, emergency response, and sports league management, which are valuable in various career paths.
- Certification and Experience: The program provides official certifications and practical experience, enhancing participants' resumes and employability.
